Texas A&M’s pursuit of Auburn star transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman has not ended. The former five-star prospect visited College Station for a two-day trip and will now reportedly visit Texas Tech on Wednesday due to a reported scheduling delay. However, while I wouldn’t call this a backup plan, head coach Mike Elko is reportedly hosting Coleman’s 2025 teammate, wide receiver Malcolm Simmons.
Late last month, it was revealed Simmons was a target for the Aggie coaching staff, looking to replace star receiver KC Concepcion, who declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. During his final two seasons at Auburn, Simmons was equally productive, combining for 908 yards and five touchdowns, including 457 yards and two scores.
Averaging an impressive 18.3 yards per catch, his best play came at the end of the season after recording 149 yards and a touchdown against Mercer, paired with 143 yards and a score against Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Similarly sized to Concepcion, Simmons possesses the quickness and ability to separate in coverage on short and intermediate routes, allowing a somewhat seamless transition as the slot or Z receiver.
First reported by Aggie insider Kannon Torres, Carter Karels provided a photo of Simmons’ arrival in College Station. Overall, this could be a sign of more movement in the transfer portal, knowing that sophomore WR Terry Buseey has yet to announce his intentions to return.
