We’re nearly a week removed from Texas A&M’s 10-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff. While head coach Mike Elko and his veteran team were looking to make a run in the postseason, offensive coordinator Collin Klein is now the head coach at Kansas State, and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman is leaving for a lateral position with Kentucky. Changes have already been made to the 2026 staff.

Headlined by the return of former defensive line coach Elijah Robinson, who will return as the co-defensive cooridnator as well as co-defensive line coach, it was reported earlier this month that offensive line coach Adam Cushing, who is set to enter his third season with the program, was linked to new Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald due to their time at Northwestern from 2009-2018.

However, while rumors were heating up, it was revealed on Wednesday that Fitzgerald will hire Wake Forest offensive line coach Nick Tabacca to the same position, which likely removed Cushing’s consideration. If Cushing had left for Michigan State, it would likely have been for a Co-Offensive Coordinator position paired with O-line coaching duties and a run game coordinator title.

Losing Cushing at this point of the offseason would have been a significant loss, knowing that the offensive line will lose three starters, including left tackle Trey Zuhn and right tackle Dametreous Crownover, who were both crucial to Texas A&M’s pass protection success, and will need to be replaced through the transfer portal.
