There were several reports yesterday, and even Texas A&M HC Coach Mike Elko suggested that Collin Klein would be taking over the Kansas State job following the retirement of head coach Chris Klieman.

Amid all the well-wishes, Kansas State Athletic Director Gene Taylor threw everyone for a loop when he announced that no decision had been made, and he wasn’t even sure if he still had Klein’s phone number. However, it is now officially confirmed, as the K-State “X” account announced Klein will be the 36th head coach in the program’s history. In a lighthearted moment, the K-State AD joked that he “finally found his number.”

While details are still emerging, the initial contract figures are as follows: a five-year deal with an average annual base salary of $4.3 million. Coach Klein’s role in propelling the Aggies to a top-25 offense nationally was instrumental in the development of Marcel Reed, who is a semifinalist for the Manning Award. We wish Coach Klein the best of luck as he moves on to his dream job after the conclusion of the Aggies’ season.
