Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed, former MBA standout, to return for 2026 season

Former Montgomery Bell Academy quarterback Marcel Reed, now at No. 7 Texas A&M, announced on Dec. 8 he will return to the Aggies in 2026 and not enter the NFL Draft.

"I'm coming back, I'll be back," Reed said on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII," podcast.

Reed, a redshirt sophomore, emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate while leading Texas A&M to an 11-1 regular season record. The Aggies were ranked No. 3 before losing to Texas on Nov. 28.

Reed was a finalist or semifinalist for the 2025 Davey O'Brien AwardManning AwardJohnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

Texas A&M will host Miami (Florida) in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 20 (11 a.m., ABC). It will be the Aggies' first appearance in the CFP.

Reed, who became a starter at midseason in 2024, has completed 209-of-338 passes for 2,932 yards with 25 touchdowns an 10 interceptions in 2025. He has rushed for 466 yards and six touchdowns.

Reed, the son of former Tennessee State football coach Rod Reed, was the back-up to former Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman, until unseating Weigman in a game against LSU in 2024. Reed came in and helped Texas A&M rally for a 38-23 win. Weigman transferred to Houston after the 2024 season.

At MBA, Reed became the first freshman to start at quarterback and remained the starter for four years. He was the 2022 Tennessee Titans Division II-AAA Mr. Football winner and led the Big Red to TSSAA state runner-up finishes in three of his four years in high school.
