Texas A&M’s 2026 spring practice season officially begins on Friday, as the coach Mike Elko and his revamped coaching staff have been focused on the 2027 recruiting class, set to host a long and talented list of of prospects, headlined by five-star cornerback John Meredith, who is set to take two visits to College Station this spring, along with his official visit on June 12-14.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the No. 1-ranked 2027 prospect (247Sports) will take his official visits to Alabama (May 29-30), Texas (June 5-7), Texas A&M (June 12-14), and Ohio State (June 19-21), as Texas and the Buckeyes are still in the running, and will now get a chance to make their pitch in an official standing this summer.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Meredith has narrowed down his list to six schools, including Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Miami, and Texas A&M. This is great news for the Aggies, who are looking to potentially seal the deal this summer, similar to last year’s recruiting strategy that paid off.
Considered a future NFL player at this stage of his young career, Elko and new cornerbacks Bryant Gross-Armento, who was elevated to the role this offseason, have made significant progress over the last few months, and is reportedly down to Texas A&M and Alabama, and while the Crimson Tide recently hosted the blue-chip defensive back, it’s important to note that the Aggies received a prediction to land Meredith late last year.
Texas A&M’s 2026 cornerback room now features Tennessee transfer Rickey Gibson from the transfer portal, paired with the return of Dezz Ricks and Julio Humphrey, while freshman five-star CB Brandon Arrington is more than talented enough to see this field, likely in a rotational role to establish depth.
