Ahead of No. 3 Texas A&M’s (9-0, 6-0 SEC) Week 12 home game vs. South Carolina (3-6, 1-6 SEC), head coach Mike Elko, along with starting quarterback Marcel Reed and star linebacker Taurean York, spoke to the media this week, as the redshirt sophomore signal caller’s apparent nickname, “The Gingerbread Man,” isn’t just humorous, but very fitting for one of the toughest quarterbacks to contain in the pocket.
Through nine games, thanks to S&C Coach Tommy Moffitt, Texas A&M’s roster has stayed healthy for most of the year, outside of two key defenders, as senior linebacker Scooby Williams and senior safety Bryce Anderson have missed a handful of games, including last Saturday’s blowout 38-17 road win over Missouri. Anderson, who endured a head injury during the Aggies’ 41-40 Week 3 road win over Notre Dame, has only appeared in one game since.
Williams’ last appearance against LSU included three tackles. While Elko stated that his starting linebacker is making progress, Wednesday’s SEC Availability Report revealed that Williams is doubtful ahead of Saturday, giving him a 25% chance to play. For the third straight week, Bryce Aderson is out, while the star wide receiver Mario Craver, who leads the team with 775 receiving yards, popped up on the injury report as questionable, with a 50% chance to play.
Craver’s injury is unknown, but the sophomore did enter the injury tent in the second half against Missouri, finishing with six receptions for 59 yards. If Craver isn’t available, the expectation is that Ashton Bethel-Roman or Terry Bussey will step in as the No. 2 option for Marcel Reed against the Gamecocks.
Senior RB Le’Veon Moss, who has missed the last three games, is also listed as out.
