Mike Elko is turning to a familiar name to be Texas A&M’s next defensive line coach. According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the Aggies are expected to hire Elijah Robinson as their new defensive line coach.

It is a return for Robinson, who worked at Texas A&M from 2018-23, serving as their defensive line coach, co-defensive coordinator, and eventually interim head coach in 2023 after they fired Jimbo Fisher. He is filling the spot left by Sean Spencer, who recently left to become the defensive line coach at Virginia Tech.

Robinson spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator and associate head coach at Syracuse, despite Elko reportedly trying to retain him in College Station ahead of the 2024 season. LSU and Nebraska also reportedly tried to hire him this offseason, but he is instead rejoining Texas A&M’s coaching staff.

He emerged as one of the best recruiters in the country in his first stint at Texas A&M, playing a key role in them landing five-star defensive line prospects Walter Nolen, DJ Hicks, LT Overton, DeMarvin Leal, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and numerous other four-star prospects.

Prior to his time at Texas A&M, Robinson played for the Penn State Nittany Lions and coached at Penn State, Temple, and Baylor. He went 1-2 as Texas A&M’s interim head coach in 2023.
