Texas A&M football may have found its most dangerous offense yet under Mike Elko, but there’s one massive question standing between the Aggies and a legitimate SEC title run.
Can the rebuilt offensive line hold up when the games actually matter?

While Marcel Reed continues to generate buzz during Texas A&M fall camp, the redshirt junior quarterback isn’t the biggest concern entering the 2026 season.
Reed is reportedly sharper with his footwork, quicker with his decisions and more accurate from the pocket.
He also has an absurd collection of weapons around him, including Mario Craver, Isaiah Horton, Ashton Bethel-Roman, Terry Bussey and freshman Aaron Gregory.
The problem is the five guys protecting him.
Texas A&M lost four starting offensive linemen to the 2026 NFL Draft, forcing Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing to essentially rebuild the unit around senior center Mark Nabou.
The Aggies attacked the transfer portal aggressively, bringing in four linemen with SEC starting experience: Wilkin Formby, Tyree Adams, Coen Echols and Trovon Baugh.
On paper, that sounds like a ready-made solution, but Elko isn't willing to declare victory yet.
“We've got two groups battling that are all relative unknowns,” Elko said. “I think until you get to September 5 and start rolling it out there against competitive people, it'll be a little bit of a wait-and-see.”
That's not panic. But it is a warning.
Texas A&M can evaluate assignments, technique and communication during practice, but Elko knows there’s no substitute for lining up against an SEC-caliber defensive front with a quarterback standing behind you.
And the competition apparently remains wide open.
Beyond the transfer additions, Robert Bourdon, Lamont Rogers, Tyler Thomas and Blake Ivy are pushing for starting jobs or significant roles in the rotation.
That depth could eventually become a strength, but right now it also shows how unsettled the Aggies remain up front.
The stakes are enormous because everything else appears to be lining up for Reed.
If the offensive line gives him time, Reed could have his best statistical season yet. Horton adds another big-play target alongside Craver, while Texas A&M's overall receiver depth gives defensive coordinators matchup problems all over the field.
But explosive receivers don't matter much if Reed is running for his life.
That's why Texas A&M's most important fall camp battle isn't at quarterback, receiver or running back.
It's happening in the trenches.

Elko has built competition, added experience and given himself options. Now comes the part nobody can simulate.
On September 5, the Aggies will finally find out whether this new offensive line is merely talented or actually ready.
