Texas A&M's Mike Elko Expected to Land 5-Star WR Eric McFarland Over Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes are recognized as one of the top teams for recruiting highly-touted wide receivers.

The Buckeyes have produced several standout players, including Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka, Jerrin Thompson, and many others. Although they have become a popular destination for talented wide receivers, they may face competition for one of the top recruits in the 2027 recruiting class.

Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong predicts that the Texas A&M Aggies, led by head coach Mike Elko, will secure the commitment of wide receiver Eric McFarland.

McFarland is ranked as the 15th best player by ESPN and is a five-star recruit. The native of Las Vegas, Nevada, has a 93.4% likelihood of choosing to play in College Station, Texas, according to the Rivals Prediction Machine. Ohio State is in second place on that list, with only a 3% chance.

If this prediction holds, Texas A&M would secure one of the premier offensive playmakers in the 2027 recruiting cycle. McFarland has quickly risen up recruiting rankings thanks to his elite speed, strong route-running ability and knack for creating separation against defensive backs.

Ohio State has long been considered the gold standard for wide receiver development in college football, as it has created a pipeline of NFL talent that consistently attracts top prospects.

However, Texas A&M may be positioning itself to win this particular battle. Under Elko, the Aggies have been aggressively targeting high-end skill players to elevate their offense in the coming years. If McFarland ultimately commits to Texas A&M, it would represent a major recruiting victory and could give the Aggies a dynamic weapon capable of becoming a centerpiece of their future passing attack.
