Texas A&M’s New Offensive Line Must Save Marcel Reed in 2026

Texas A&M football will go only as far as Marcel Reed can take it in 2026, but the Aggies’ rebuilt offensive line may determine whether the quarterback gets a fair chance to finish the job.
Reed’s first full season as the starter produced real momentum.

He threw for a career-best 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, numbers that confirmed his playmaking ability and helped push Texas A&M into the College Football Playoff.
The warning signs were impossible to miss, though.
Reed also threw 12 interceptions, tied for the second-highest total in the SEC.
Against top-35 defenses, his production dropped sharply … six touchdown passes, eight interceptions and a 59 percent completion rate.
Those struggles followed the Aggies into season-ending losses against Texas and Miami, turning a historic run into a frustrating collapse.
Now Mike Elko has rebuilt the wall in front of him.
Texas A&M lost four veteran starters from last year’s offensive line, including Trey Zuhn, Chase Bisontis, Ar’maj Reed-Adams and Dametrious Crownover.
Instead of asking an inexperienced group to survive the SEC immediately, Elko attacked the transfer portal and added four linemen with conference experience.
LSU transfers Tyree Adams and Coen Echols are projected to handle the left side.
South Carolina transfer Trovon Baugh is expected at right guard, while former Alabama tackle Wilkin Formby should take over on the right edge. Senior center Mark Nabou is the only returning starter from the 2025 unit.
That’s a massive amount of turnover, but it may also give Texas A&M more usable depth than it had a year ago.
Lamont Rogers, Tyler Thomas, Blake Ivy, Ashton Funk, Isendre Ahfua and Robert Bourdon give offensive line coach Adam Cushing several younger options capable of pushing for snaps.
The Aggies can rotate their best run blockers early, protect veterans with injury concerns and adjust faster if the first combination fails.
That flexibility matters because Reed can’t spend another season trying to rescue broken pockets against elite defenses.
His athleticism creates explosive plays, but Texas A&M needs him making cleaner decisions from structure—not repeatedly improvising after protection collapses.
The pressure falls on everyone.
Reed must cut down the interceptions. The transfers must become a unit rather than five individual resumes. Elko and Cushing must identify the right lineup before the SEC schedule exposes every weakness.

Texas A&M bought experience to protect its most important player. If the new line holds, Reed has the talent to take the Aggies deeper into the playoff.
If it doesn’t, 2026 could end exactly where 2025 did: with promise buried under pressure.
