The Tennessee football team recently named Faizon Brandon its starting quarterback, but the Volunteers are still very active on the recruiting trail. They have landed several talented commitments for the upcoming seasons, and one in particular should have fans excited.
That player is five-star running back David Gabriel-Georges, who chose Tennessee after the Volunteers won a highly competitive recruiting battle over Ohio State.
“Five-star running back David Gabriel Georges committed to Tennessee on Wednesday, sealing a massive victory for Vols coach Josh Heupel and closing one of the fiercest recruiting battles of the 2027 cycle. Gabriel Georges is ESPN's No. 2 running back and the No. 14 overall prospect in the 2027 SC Next 300. Originally from Quebec, he has accounted for 2,852 rushing yards and 41 touchdowns across two varsity seasons at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee,” ESPN’s Eli Lederman wrote.
In his senior debut, the highly touted running back put on a show for ESPN and the rest of the college football world.
“Gabriel Georges ran for three touchdowns and accounted for 261 yards of total offense Thursday night in Baylor's season-opening 38-20 win against Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy. He scored all three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter, helping the Red Raiders pull away from the Eagles in a rematch of Tennessee's Division II-AAA championship game last year,” Vols 247’s Ryan Callahan wrote.
Georges is teammates with Peyton Manning’s son, Marshall Manning, at Baylor School. Marshall’s cousin, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, was asked about his performance and how excited he was for him. Arch also took the opportunity to give Georges a shoutout.
“I'm fired up for him, they have a really good running back. He looks yoked," Manning told the media.
That is about as good of a compliment as a young running back can receive from a college quarterback. Of course, Georges has not played a down of college football yet and still has plenty to prove. However, even Manning appears to recognize the potential he possesses. Georges has already shown that he can be a dominant player at the high school level, and now he will have the opportunity to bring that talent to Tennessee and eventually compete in the SEC.
A compliment like that from an SEC quarterback has to be surreal for Georges, especially before he has even arrived on campus.
