Texas Football first team OUT of first CFP rankings bracket

There's good news and bad news for Texas Football after the first college football playoff rankings release of the 2025 season. The good news is Texas is ranked No. 11 in the first ranking. The bad news is the Horns are not in the CFP bracket … yet.

The Longhorns are ranked higher in the CFP than they are in either the US LBM Coaches Poll or the AP Top 25. Texas is ranked ahead of Oklahoma. OU is ranked ahead of Texas in the polls despite having the same record and lost to UT head-to-head.

But Texas is "First Team Out" of the bracket, which isn't just based on the rankings. Conference champions and Group of 5 teams are included.

The bottom line for Texas is, if they continue to win they will be in the CFP this year. A loss would make the CFP a long shot in 2025. Two losses will end any CFP hopes.

Overall, four teams from the SEC make the CFP bracket (Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss), followed by the Big Ten (Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon), the Big 12 (Texas Tech, BYU), and the ACC (Virginia).
