Texas Football has landed its second big transfer portal commitment of the day. NC State running back Hollywood Smothers has committed to the Longhorns. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and staff were able to flip Coleman from a previous portal pledge to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Smothers originally committed to Alabama on Monday, but has changed his mind after just six days. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound tailback is the No. 2 ranked RB in the transfer portal, ahead of another Longhorns signing Raleek Brown of Arizona State, who is No. 4.
The North Carolina native had a successful sophomore season in the ACC, rushing for 939 yards and six touchdowns on 160 carries in 11 games for the Wolfpack. Smothers originally went to rival Oklahoma as a three-star prospect out of high school before transferring to NC State. He was the No. 356 overall player from the 2023 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Texas has lost a lot at running back with the departures of Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter. But the combination of Smothers and Brown should be a big upgrade.
