Texas Football freshman Lance Jackson earns conference honors

Following an impressive freshman campaign, Lance Jackson is adding to his trophy case. The Longhorns EDGE was named to the 2025 SEC All-Freshman Team on Thursday, becoming the second player in the program over the last two years to earn the honor. He joins Colin Simmons, who earned a spot last year. 

In his first season as a Longhorn, Jackson appeared in 12 games and recorded 15 tackles. He also added two sacks for a loss and four pressures to his resume. While he had to fight for playing time, the Texas native made the most of his opportunities, putting himself in position for a bigger role for the 2026 campaign. 

Although Jackson's freshman season was full of milestones, there were a few that stood out. His first sack came against Sam Houston. A few weeks later, he shined in one of the biggest games of the season, the Red Rivalry game. Against the Sooners, Jackson recorded two tackles, including a 0.5 sack for a loss of a yard, and a season-high two quarterback hurries. 

The stellar play came as no surprise to many in Austin. He was ranked as the third-best EDGE in his recruiting class by 247Sports and showed why for one of the top programs in the nation. They also ranked him as the 10th-best player from Texas. That is why the Longhorns made him a priority on the recruiting trail. 

While the Longhorns were unable to reach their ultimate goal, they are poised for success in 2026. They have one of the best recruiting classes in the nation and will have veterans like Jackson to rely on. Next year, he should be able to take his game to the next level.

Before Jackson enters offseason mode, he and  the Longhorns still have one game on that schedule. That is the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Michigan on Dec.31st.
