Texas football aims to improve its “lethargic” offensive display as coach Steve Sarkisian described versus UTSA. They’ll have to pull that off against No. 16 Tennessee in one of the louder college stadiums in America. But the Longhorns might also need to find the replacement for Hollywood Smothers.
The star running back is officially questionable for the huge SEC clash set for Saturday, with On3 confirming the news. His loss certainly alters the offense for “Sark.”
Smothers added versatility to an already explosive offense, delivering 198 rushing yards and 54 through the air with three combined touchdowns. And he’s posting these numbers following his transfer from North Carolina State. Smothers even began his career with longtime heated Texas rival Oklahoma for the 2023 season.

But Smothers isn’t the only notable injury to mention ahead of this epic showdown in Knoxville.
Tennessee faces rolling without its own key running back in DeSean Bishop. He previously left the 42-9 rout of Kennesaw State in Week 3, tallying 42 yards on the ground.
Bishop is dealing with a hip injury ahead of Texas at Tennessee. So his potential absence could also impact Vols head coach Josh Heupel and how he attacks the Longhorns.
Regardless, Texas leaves Austin and the 40 acres for the first time this season. The ‘Horns already claimed one top 25 victory this season over Ohio State, which was No. 1 at the time. Except the Longhorns will face one of the louder and more hostile venues in Neyland Stadium. Tennessee coming in ranked and hosting the nation’s No. 1 team adds further intrigue for the contest.
