With the college football offseason in full swing, the Texas Longhorns have been busy on the recruiting trail. That has entailed building connections with some of the top prospects on the board. This week, that will continue as head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will welcome 2027 recruit Junior James to campus for a visit.

Currently, the Thompson High product is ranked as 15th best player from Alabama in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 31st-best safety. Due to his play, the Longhorns' target has drawn interest from some of the nation's top teams in need of help on defense.

During the recruiting process, James has received offers from Oregon, Alabama, Indiana, Auburn, BYU, Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. With many options on the table, the Longhorns will have to make themselves stand out while James is in town. For Sarkisian, that should be no issue as he has helped build one of the top programs in the SEC.

As a sophomore, James showed just how good he can be. He finished the 2025 campaign with 66 total tackles and seven pass deflections. He also added three interceptions to his resume and frustrated offensive coordinators on a weekly basis. That helped pique the curiosity of programs looking to add to their secondary.

If James were to join the Longhorns, he would be a part of a 2027 class that is full of promise. Texas has already secured commitments from four-star recruits Easton Royal and Cameron Hall. They will be joined by three-star recruits JT Geraci, Cade Huag, Karnell James, and Ty Knutson. With more spots to fill, that list should continue to grow.

Over the next few weeks, James will be a player to watch. Assuming his visit goes well, he could be wearing the burnt orange when the 2027 season begins.
