Texas Football star Colin Simmons earns national honor

After another impressive regular season, Colin Simmons is adding to his trophy case. The Longhorns' star was named a second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Friday. For Simmons, the honor comes as no surprise, as during his sophomore campaign, he made life difficult for offensive coordinators. 

In his second season as a Longhorn, Simmons recorded 41 tackles including 13.5 for a loss. He also had 11 sacks and three forced fumbles. In a season full of ups and downs and close wins, Simmons was one of the Longhorns bright spots on defense.

Through his first two collegiate seasons, the Dallas native has been one of the best players at his position. The talented linebacker has recorded 89 total tackles and four pass deflections. While leading the defense, he has also recorded 20 sacks, including a career high 11 during the 2025 campaign. Due to his play, he seems to be on the fast track to being in the NFL in the near future. 

As a freshman, Simmons won the 2024 Shawn Alexander Freshman of the Year award. That award is given annually to the best freshman in the nation. He showed why during the 2025 campaign as he continued to be one of Steve Sarkisian's best players. 

Although the Longhorns were not able to secure a spot in the College Football Playoff, they still have one game left on the calendar. They will take on Michigan in the  Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31. That game will give Simmons one last time to shine on the national stage before the focus shifts to the 2026 campaign.
