The Longhorns boarded a plane today to Orlando for their bout with Michigan, but it was without their RB1. Tre Wisner has decided to enter the portal and finish his college career elsewhere, making him the fourth Longhorn RB to do so. Wisner is coming off nearly a 600 yard season after topping 1,000 yards in 2024. Wisner finishes his Texas career with just over 1,700 yards over three seasons.

Wisner leaves a room that lacks experience already. Heading into the bowl game, the Longhorns RB room has a total of 64 college carries. James Simon and Christian Clark will lead the way in the bowl game, but Michael Terry has also begun to turn heads in bowl prep. The trio is talented, but young and inexperienced. It was already understood the Longhorns were going to be aggressive in the portal at RB, but next Wednesday could be telling on just how aggressive.
The name of the portal every Longhorn fan is watching is star Florida RB Jadan Baugh. It seems Baugh has met with Jon Sumrall and the new Florida staff earlier this week, but no decision has been made. Baugh would be a home run get for Sarkisian and company in the backfield, but there are other great options if Baugh decides to stay put in Gainesville. Regardless, it’s fair to assume the Longhorns need to add a true RB1 and possibly a backup as well given Wisner’s departure.

Tre Wisner leaves Texas with a rather big hole in the RB room. That being said, it’s also a clear sign that Steve Sarkisian wants to find a true RB1 that can change the Longhorns offense. Wisner, while productive at moments this year, does not bring the versatility running the ball that Sarkisian would like.
That being said, this is a blow to the Longhorns team and leadership heading into 2026. The portal window will provide answers, but for now, the Cheez-It Bowl is seemingly an audition for the trio of young RBs on the Longhorn roster. We will be watching those three closely to see just how active Sarkisian will have to be come the new year.
