The Texas Longhorns head into the 2026 college football season with one of the most talent-rich rosters in the country and heightened pressure to deliver a national title, albeit already facing questions about the health of their most important player.
The Longhorns closed out 2025 on a strong note, finished the season with a 10-3 record, but missed out on the College Football Playoff, consoling themselves with a Citrus Bowl win over Michigan.
CBS’s Brandon Marcello, however, firmly believes in Texas’ ability to bounce back and has slotted the Longhorns at No. 2 in his “Way-Too-Early Top 25,” calling the 2026 season a “playoff-or-bust” year for Texas.
Texas, for one, has already bolstered its skill positions through a series of major portal additions through the 2026 cycle, loading up for what could be quarterback Arch Manning‘s final season in Austin.
The most notable of those transfers, according to CBS Sports’ Cody Nagel, is former Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman.
“Texas made it a priority to surround Arch Manning with elite skill talent as it looks to capitalize on its championship window, and Cam Coleman fits the bill,” Nagel wrote.
The former five-star recruit was ranked as the No. 2 WR and No. 3 overall recruit in the 2024 HS class by 247Sports Composite.
During his two years at Auburn, Coleman has racked up 93 receptions for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last year alone, Coleman posted 708 yards and five scores despite the Tigers’ instability at the quarterback position.

Coleman brings NFL-caliber measurables at 6-foot-3 and nearly 200 pounds, and was ranked the No. 2 overall player in On3’s transfer portal rankings.
“A 6-foot-3, 197-pound former five-star recruit, he has the size and explosiveness of a true No. 1 target,” Nagel wrote. “With an upgrade at quarterback in Manning, Coleman is positioned to take his game – and Texas’ offense – to another level in 2026.”
Macello cited Coleman, along with new backfield additions Hollywood Smothers from NC State and Raleek Brown from Arizona State, as three key additions to the Longhorns’ 2026 offense.
Texas is also returning star receiver Ryan Wingo and will pair him with Coleman in what projects as one of the SEC’s top receiving duos. Manning, meanwhile, finished 2025 with 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a Citrus Bowl MVP.
