The Texas Longhorns are looking for a strong offseason after going 10-3 in 2025 and failing to make the College Football Playoff. Despite not living up to expectations as a national championship contender, the Longhorns are still a popular option for high school recruits.
Steve Sarkisian is off to a hot start with his 2027 recruiting class. Among the six commitments is five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. Despite already having one of the nation’s top pass catchers, Texas is looking to add more.
Trenton Yancey, out of Duncanville, Texas, has been a key target for Sarkisian. As a junior at Duncanville High School, he hauled in 54 receptions for 780 yards and nine touchdowns. He was also effective as a rusher with 388 yards and 10 touchdowns.
While holding a handful of offers from college football‘s top programs, just a few teams are standing out in front. In an article from Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, the Longhorns are named as one of three teams in the lead.
“Yancey is down to Florida, Texas, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Florida State, SMU, TCU, Nebraska and Oregon,” Spiegelman wrote. “He tells Rivals that Texas, Florida and Notre Dame are setting the pace in his recruitment.”
Landing his commitment would be a major win for the Longhorns. Yancey is a four-star recruit, the No. 31 wide receiver and the No. 250 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.
He’s already gotten a closer look at Texas, taking two unofficial visits with the team. It won’t be the last time he’s in Austin, with Yancey previously announcing an official visit scheduled for June 12-14.
While the Longhorns are trending in the right direction, the Gators and Fighting Irish still pose as serious threats. His unofficial visit will play a key role in Yancey’s final decision.
