The Texas Longhorns are one of several teams set to host cornerback John Meredith III, out of Fort Worth, Texas, for an official visit. He’ll be making his way to Austin on June 5, while also visiting the Alabama Crimson Tide (May 29), Texas A&M Aggies (June 12) and Ohio State Buckeyes (June 19).
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, he is a five-star recruit, the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 2 player in the nation, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. Outside of teams he’ll be visiting, Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett reported that the Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are among the defender’s top choices.
Known for his athleticism and speed, Meredith has earned notoriety as one of the top cornerbacks in high school football. He earned first-team honors as a MaxPreps Junior All-American for the Trinity Trojans.
As the recruiting process continues to heat up, a new favorite has emerged. On March 4, Rivals’ Josh McCuistion made a prediction for the cornerback to choose Texas A&M. However, Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman have switched things up, each logging a prediction for Meredith to now land with the Longhorns.
It would be another big-time addition to Texas’ 2027 cycle, which already features five-star wide receiver Easton Royal. So far, Steve Sarkisian and his staff have landed nine commitments, ranking sixth in the SEC and 12th in the nation.
With official visits approaching, the recruiting battle is expected to intensify with each team looking to solidify its standings before Meredith’s decision. Based on the latest predictions, the Longhorns will be aiming to keep their lead.
