Texas Longhorns projected to land several elite recruits

The 2028 recruiting cycle has a long way to go before it's finalized. However, the Texas Longhorns are making waves in the class. They already have four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence committed, and a handful more could be joining him at some point.
According to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals, Texas is favored to land five blue-chip recruits in 2028, and they'll be in Austin for their game against Ohio State this Saturday.
"I have RPM forecasts for Texas to eventually land commitments from four-star OT Jai Knight, Rivals300 LB Deshawn Simmons, four-star WR Peyton Smith, blue-chip ATH CJ Whaley, and blue-chip RB Micah Rhodes. Rhodes could have a decision made before the end of the year, and I am bullish on Texas’ standing in that one." – Rivals analyst Sam Spiegelman
The Longhorns offered Knight during a camp he attended last June. They're trying to hold off schools like Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M. He's the No. 172 recruit, the No. 21 offensive tackle, and the No. 21 prospect in Texas per Rivals industry rankings.
Simmons got an offer from Texas in January. He also has Alabama, Georgia, Miami, LSU, Texas A&M, and more who have offered him. Rivals industry rankings have him listed as the No. player nationally, the No. 12 linebacker, and the No. 19 recruit in Texas.
Texas offered Smith back in May. Other notable schools that are after him are Florida State, Nebraska, TCU, Houston, and Texas Tech. He's the No. 88 player in the country, the No. 12 wide receiver, and the No. 11 prospect in Texas according to Rivals industry rankings.
Whaley received his offer from the Longhorns nearly a year to the day on Sept. 13 of 2025. Alabama, SMU, Texas Tech, LSU, Florida, and Ole Miss are also recruiting him. Rivals industry rankings have him listed as the No. 76 prospect, the No. 3 athlete, and the No. 6 player in the state of Texas.
Rhodes got his offer from Texas during a camp last June just like Knight. Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech are some of his top suitors. He's the No. 123 recruit, the No. 8 running back, and the No. 14 prospect in Texas per Rivals industry rankings.
