Texas QB Arch Manning Set to Make Ty Simpson Decision Before Georgia Game

Arch Manning and the No. 11 Texas Longhorns (7-2) had a bye this past week, allowing them to recover after playing four of their last five games away from Austin. The Longhorns are still firmly in the College Football Playoff hunt, but they have little to no room for error in their final three games.

Arguably, the biggest test remaining on Texas’s schedule will take place this weekend, as they head to Athens to face the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. Texas lost to Georgia both in the regular season and in the SEC Championship game a year ago, and suffering a loss this year would hand Texas the dreaded third loss, which is considered to be one too many to get into the playoff.

While very few teams can beat Georgia between the hedges, the Alabama Crimson Tide did so earlier this season, which has led Manning to confirm he will use his friendship with Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson to gain an edge on the Bulldogs.

As confirmed by David Eckert of the Austin Statesmen, Manning and Simpson have exchanged information on opposing teams throughout the season and plan to do so again this week.

“Arch Manning said he anticipates debriefing with Alabama QB Ty Simpson, who went on the road and beat Georgia earlier this season,” wrote Eckert. “Said they’ve exchanged info about mutual opponents previously.”

According to ESPN BET, Georgia is favored by 6.5 points on Saturday. A win for the Bulldogs would give them one of the stronger resumes in college football, possibly eliminate Texas from playoff contention and also push their record against the Longhorns to 4-4 all time.

Saturday’s game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on ABC.
