The Texas Tech football team added another big pledge to its 2027 recruiting class on Thursday, Nov. 20, when Humble Summer Creek wide receiver Benny Easter Jr. announced his commitment to the Red Raiders.
Easter has caught 75 passes for 994 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He’s a 6-foot-2, 193-pound junior on a Summer Creek team that’s 10-1. He’s also returned four kickoffs for a 39.5-yard average.
Summer Creek, the alma mater of former Texas Tech linebacker Dakota Allen, plays Manvel on Friday in a Class 6A Division II area-round playoff game.
On the 247Sports composite index, Easter is ranked the No. 21 prospect in Texas and No. 135 in the nation for the 2027 class. The other schools who have offered him a scholarship, according to 247Sports, are Colorado State, Houston, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas-El Paso.
The Red Raiders have five commitments for the 2027 class, all of whom are among the top 100 prospects in Texas on the 247Sports composite. The others are Palestine Westwood quarterback Kavian Bryant (6-2 1/2, 180 pounds) and defensive linemen Jalen Brewster (6-3, 302) from Cedar Hill, K’Adrian Redmond (6-3, 305) from DeSoto and Antonio Underwood (6-2, 255) from Spring Westfield.
On the 247Sports composite national ranking, Brewster is No. 17, Bryant No. 31 and Redmond No. 189.
The Red Raiders also have a commitment from Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military edge defender LaDamion Guyton (6-3, 225), who reportedly is reclassifying from the 2027 to the 2026 class. He’s rated the No. 15 prospect in the country for 2026 on the 247Sports composite.
