Texas Tech football five-star commit Jalen Brewster first turned heads with a big transfer. The Red Raiders watched him leave the Lone Star State for Georgia powerhouse Buford. But TTU and coach Joey McGuire won’t be losing him on the College Football Recruiting trail amid some flip rumors.
Despite pushes from notable powers like LSU, the defensive tackle isn’t going anywhere. He officially shut his recruitment down and detailed the reasons why with On3 Wednesday.
“The way they feed into their players. The words, the practices, practice like games. Culture for sure,” Brewster told Steve Wiltfong of On3.

He added via Hayes Fawcett of the same national outlet: “I feel like Texas Tech is the best place for me and the best place to build my own legacy.”
He raved about the family structure in place from McGuire. TTU has risen in popularity among recruits like Brewster, especially in the NIL era. The Red Raiders have received prominent financial backing in recent years. Especially in winning over 2025 five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo thanks to a big NIL push that led to a $2.3 million deal.
But again, Texas Tech and McGuire needed to hold off on some serious lurkers for Brewster’s services.
