Texas Tech Loads Up Earl Campbell Watch List With Five Red Raiders

Texas Tech’s offense is getting plenty of preseason respect, and the latest watch list makes that impossible to ignore.
The Red Raiders placed five players on the 2026 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award watch list, giving Texas Tech one of the deepest collections of candidates in the country.

Quarterback Will Hammond, running backs Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams, tight end Terrance Carter Jr. and offensive lineman Sheridan Wilson all made the cut.
That’s a lot of firepower from one offense.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honors the nation’s top Division I offensive player with ties to Texas, whether through high school football or by playing at a four-year school in the state. The award also emphasizes leadership, toughness, sportsmanship and perseverance … traits closely associated with Campbell’s own career.
For Texas Tech, the list says something bigger about expectations in 2026.
Hammond is already the centerpiece of the offense, but he won’t have to carry it alone. Dickey and Williams give the Red Raiders legitimate depth in the backfield, while Carter has become one of the most recognizable tight ends in college football.
Carter’s inclusion is especially notable after an offseason full of national recognition. He’s already landed on multiple major watch lists and enters the season as one of Texas Tech’s most dangerous mismatches in the passing game.
Wilson gives the Red Raiders representation up front, which is fitting for an offense that will need consistency in the trenches if it wants to stay among the Big 12’s most explosive units.
The 2026 Earl Campbell watch list includes 107 players from 72 schools, with wide receivers leading all positions with 36 nominations. Running backs account for 28, while quarterbacks make up 15 of the candidates.
The field will be trimmed to as many as 16 semifinalists in November, then to five finalists in December.
The winner will be announced in December and honored at the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet on Jan. 27, 2027, in Tyler.

Texas Tech may not end up with the eventual winner. But putting five players on the list makes one thing pretty clear:
The Red Raiders expect their offense to be a major problem for somebody every week.
