Texas Tech's QB Brendan Sorsby Enters Treatment; Alan Bowman Offers to Return

Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ quarterback who promised to be one of the top signal callers in the country heading into the 2026 season, has made headlines recently. On Monday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Sorsby was checking into a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction.

Thamel said that Sorsby, who transferred from the Cincinnati Bearcats this offseason, decided to enter the program after it was revealed that he had made thousands of bets on a variety of sports during his collegiate career.

He also reported that the NCAA was investigating Sorsby’s gambling to see whether it would affect the fifth-year quarterback’s eligibility for next season and beyond.

Sorsby began his career with the Indiana Hoosiers in 2022, where he redshirted his freshman year. During this time, Sorsby reportedly placed bets on the Indiana football team while he sat out, according to Thamel.

After the news of Sorsby’s reported gambling came out, former Texas Tech and current UFL quarterback Alan Bowman took to social media to tell Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire and Texas Tech that he was interested in returning.

“Im free next fall,” Bowman said on Instagram, along with pictures of him playing for Texas Tech.

Bowman spent the first three years of his collegiate career with Texas Tech from 2018 to 2020 before making stops with the Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma State Cowboys. In total, Bowman played seven years of college football before moving on to play professionally in the UFL.

While it is unlikely he would be eligible for an eighth season in college, Bowman provided an option for McGuire and Texas Tech during a difficult time for the program.

Sorsby is currently under NCAA investigation, and his eligibility for the 2026 season is in question.
