Coach Eli Drinkwitz led the Missouri Tigers to a comprehensive 38-21 win over the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 2 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
After the Tigers’ fifth straight win in the Border War rivalry game, Drinkwitz blasted the Jayhawks for releasing a Civil War-themed hype video before the Friday clash.

During his postgame news conference, the outspoken Drinkwitz ripped the Jayhawks for their Civil War-themed hype video.
“I was disappointed in the rivalry, the turn that it took today. I thought that was uncalled for,” Drinkwitz said. “I’m just glad that this whole right versus wrong [expletive] that was started just got settled on a football field, because it’s a football game.
“It’s an American football game that people love to come watch and cheer for their teams. It’s not even deeper than that. I get there’s a past to it, but why are we stirring that [expletive] up? It’s 9/11. This country needs unity now more than ever. I was embarrassed for them, to be honest, and that’s why I tried to embarrass them at the end.”
Drinkwitz decided to punish the Jayhawks on fourth-and-9 in the fourth quarter with the Tigers leading by 10 points. Quarterback Austin Simmons connected with tight end Brett Norfleet for a 13-yard touchdown to pad the Tigers’ considerable points tally.

The Border War rivalry dates back to 1891 and is one of college football’s most historic rivalries. The game went on hiatus in 2012 when the Tigers joined the SEC, but resumed last season when Missouri won in Columbia. The clash will resume in 2031, with no games scheduled between the rivals until then.
“I don’t really care if it continues or not,” Drinkwitz said, addressing the future of the rivalry game. I mean, if they’re going to be weird about it, then what’s the point? You know, they want to have a football game and play a football game and have a great rivalry on the border. Then awesome, let’s do it. But if we want to make it deeper than that, man, like we left Kansas bleeding again, so call it good.”
While speaking to Fox’s Josh Sims after the game, Drinkwitz left the interview to intervene in a scuffle between Missouri and Kansas players. The coach was also heard stopping a player from planting a Missouri flag on the Jayhawks’ field as tempers threatened to spill over.
