The first major rankings of the 2026 college football season are officially here.

Ohio State will enter the year ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP Top 25, followed by Oregon at No. 2 and Georgia at No. 3. Notre Dame and Texas round out what should be a ridiculously talented top five.

2026 Preseason AP Top 25

No. 1 — Ohio State
No. 2 — Oregon
No. 3 — Georgia
No. 4 — Notre Dame
No. 5 — Texas
No. 6 — Indiana
No. 7 — Miami
No. 8 — Texas A&M
No. 9 — Ole Miss
No. 10 — Oklahoma
No. 11 — LSU
No. 12 — Texas Tech
No. 13 — Alabama
No. 14 — BYU
No. 14 — USC
No. 16 — Michigan
No. 17 — Washington
No. 18 — Penn State
No. 19 — SMU
No. 20 — Tennessee
No. 21 — Utah
No. 22 — Iowa
No. 23 — Houston
No. 24 — Louisville
No. 25 — Missouri

There is plenty to talk about at the top.

Ohio State and Oregon give the Big Ten the top two teams in the country, while defending national champion Indiana checks in at No. 6. Michigan is further down at No. 16, followed immediately by Washington at No. 17 and Penn State at No. 18.

But once again, the SEC dominates when it comes to overall depth.

Georgia leads the conference at No. 3, with Texas at No. 5, Texas A&M at No. 8, Ole Miss at No. 9 and Oklahoma at No. 10. That gives the SEC five teams inside the top 10 before even getting to LSU at No. 11 and Alabama at No. 13.

Tennessee sits at No. 20, while Missouri barely makes the cut at No. 25.

For Georgia, No. 3 puts the Bulldogs right where most people expected them to be. Kirby Smart once again has one of the deepest rosters in the country, and anything short of another serious run at the SEC and national championships would feel disappointing.

Alabama at No. 13 is one of the more interesting placements in the entire poll. The Crimson Tide aren’t used to entering seasons this far outside the top 10, and that ranking should only add more motivation to a program that has heard plenty of doubt throughout the offseason.

Then there’s Indiana.

The Hoosiers are the defending national champions, yet they will begin their title defense ranked No. 6 with five programs ahead of them.

Preseason polls ultimately don’t mean much once the football actually starts.

But heading into Week 1, Ohio State is officially the team to beat, Georgia leads the SEC and the race for the 2026 national championship already looks wide open.
