The 2026 college football season opener between Georgia Tech and Colorado has officially been moved.
Georgia Tech and Colorado are scheduled to open the 2026 college football regular season. However, the game has officially been moved up a couple of days. The game will now kick off on Thursday night, September 3.
The game has been flexed and will air nationally on ESPN.
"For the second-straight season, Georgia Tech and Colorado will open 2026 in the national spotlight, as the opener between the Yellow Jackets and Buffaloes at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field has been flexed to Thursday, Sept. 3. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and kickoff time will be announced at a later date," the school announced.
The 2026 season is a big one for Deion Sanders and the Colorado football program.
Colorado had a disappointing 2025 season, missing out on bowl season, after losing Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL.
Coach Prime is entering Year 4 with the program.
Former Colorado great is out on Coach Prime
Former Colorado Buffaloes star Christian Fauria says he's "tapped out" on supporting the program.
“I don’t want Colorado to fail — I want them to succeed!” Fauria said in an email, per USA TODAY. “But I find the head coach’s priorities off-putting. I officially tapped out in April 2025, when athletic director Rick George allowed the University of Colorado to retire Shedeur Sanders’ No. 2 jersey.”
He added: “Believe me, I can root for Shedeur as a player while still calling his jersey retirement what it was: a vanity project driven by his father. It’s this strange, twisted loyalty from Sanders die-hards — now spilling over into the NFL — that I want no part of. So I hold my nose and move on.”
Colorado, meanwhile, will look to take a step forward in 2026, beginning at Georgia Tech.
