Top Notre Dame 2027 EDGE target Abraham Sesay is fresh off an official visit to LSU. Where do things currently stand for the Irish staff?
Notre Dame football is a week away from kicking off official visit season. Other programs across the country got things going this past weekend, hosting several of their top 2027 recruiting targets. That includes the LSU Tigers, who brought in several elite talents, including Exton (Pa.) Downingtown East EDGE Abraham Sesay, who is a top overall target for the Fighting Irish.
The vibes coming off that trip to Baton Rouge are seemingly good for head coach Lane Kiffin and the Tigers, but was it impactful enough to steal Sesay from the Irish program? After having several conversations over the last day or so, there is a lot to unpack from that trip. That includes where LSU now stands, who the other contenders are, and how Notre Dame can close this one out.
Here is where things stand with Sesay.
Where things stand with Notre Dame and Sesay
By all accounts, Notre Dame made a very good impression on Sesay this weekend. Getting Ed Orgeron on board before the official visit season kicked off was a great move by LSU. He had several key targets on campus raving about his presence and excitement for the program’s future.
I do, however, believe that Orgeron’s presence will be felt more for the local targets. The state of Louisiana is deeply rooted in tradition, and everyone and their mother is familiar with Coach O. For Sesay, while I do think that he enjoyed getting to know Orgeron this weekend, I am not convinced that it had as much impact as some may indicate.
With Sesay making an official visit to Baton Rouge, it would be ignorant to ignore the team’s presence. That has not caused me to waver from my confidence that the talented pass rusher ends up with Notre Dame when all is said and done. The Irish staff have had a huge impact on Sesay, and that relationship and academic background will matter a lot in the end.
Schools like Penn State and Duke worry me more than LSU right now. Perhaps that will eventually change, but there is nothing I have heard up until this point that has caused me to rethink that. I still like Notre Dame to land Sesay to potentially pair with defensive ends, Aidan O’Neil, and Jackson Vaughn.
Abraham Sesay’s recruiting background
Sesay is a four-star player and near-consensus top-100 recruit on each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Sesay currently sits as the No. 50 overall player, the No. 8 EDGE, and the No. 3 player from the state of Pennsylvania for the 2027 recruiting class. 247 Sports is the highest on the Pennsylvania native right now, pegging him as the No. 27 overall player and No. 6 EDGE in the class, while Rivals isn’t far behind.
The 6-5, 225-pound pass rusher has demanded the attention of some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of Sesay’s top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Ole Miss, Auburn, USC, Nebraska, Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, UNC, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Duke, and Northwestern, among several others.
As a junior, Sesay put together a tremendous season for Downingtown East. The talented pass rusher recorded around 80 total tackles and 13 sacks. With long limbs and explosiveness, Sesay has the talent to develop into a big-time defensive end on the college level. As he continues to grow into his frame, there is no reason why he can’t become a stellar three-down player.
