One throw against the Oregon Ducks was enough to make Breiden Fehoko reach for one of football’s biggest quarterback comparisons. The Oklahoma State Cowboys had already delivered one of Week 2’s biggest surprises with a 39-31 win over No. 6 Oregon, and Drew Mestemaker supplied the kind of play that tends to stick.

In the second quarter, Mestemaker launched a 52-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Young off his back foot, hitting the receiver in stride and giving Oklahoma State a 24-14 lead. Days later, Fehoko saw something familiar in the throw.

Breiden Fehoko Sees Josh Allen in Drew Mestemaker

Former LSU national champion Breiden Fehoko highlighted the play while evaluating Mestemaker’s performance.

“Oregon running Fire Zone quarters and @DrewMestemaker unloading a clip off his backfoot for 52 yards to his receiver on the run,” Fehokowrote afterward. “The next Josh Allen.”

The comparison is enormous, but Fehoko’s point was easy to see in that specific play. Josh Allen has built his NFL reputation around rare arm strength, size, and the ability to create explosive throws when his base or the structure of the play breaks down. Mestemaker flashed a version of that against Oregon.

It was not his only eye-catching moment. Mestemaker also ripped off a 75-yard run on Oklahoma State’s opening possession and later scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 10-yard fourth-quarter scramble.

He finished 26 of 43 for 317 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while adding 109 rushing yards and another score. The Cowboys piled up 554 total yards and ended a 21-game losing streak against FBS opponents one season after finishing 1-11.

Mestemaker’s 46-Touchdown Résumé Adds Context

The Oregon performance also gives new life toearlier comparisons that surfaced after Mestemaker’s breakout showing. Still, the current numbers provide a useful perspective.

Mestemaker owns a 71.8 impact score on PFN’s CFB QB Impact metrics through two games, ranking No. 206 among 305 qualifying quarterbacks. That reflects how uneven his start at Oklahoma State has been. He threw for 241 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 24-10 loss at Tulsa before erupting against Oregon.

The 46-touchdown number in the headline comes from a larger résumé. Hiscareer totals include 39 passing touchdowns and seven rushing scores across his time at North Texas and Oklahoma State.

Mestemaker followed coach Eric Morris from North Texas to Stillwater after throwing for 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2025, a season that earned him American Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors.

That background explains why the Oregon performance did not come completely out of nowhere, even if the scale of the upset did. Now, one game against Oregon has pushed his name into a much louder conversation.

Fehoko was not saying Mestemaker has already become Allen. He was reacting to a specific trait and a specific throw. The rest of the Big 12 schedule will show whether those flashes become something repeatable.
