The SEC Releases a Statement On Something That Will Affect Tennessee Vols Athletics

The Tennessee Volunteers have been battling with some other teams, thanks to a ruling that has completely ruled out of their favor due to their current antics. That being said, some professional players are trying to return to college football.

Here is what the SEC had to say following the recent developments, leaving hope for teams like the Tennessee Volunteers.

"College Athletes, not former professional athletes, have been at the heart of the Southeastern Conference. Individuals who choose to leave college athletics, sign professional playing contracts, and compete professionally should not then be permitted to return to college. Allowing that to occur will blur the line between college and professional sports, create significant competitive equity concerns, and reduce opportunities for high school and current college athletes. College sports are for college athletes. The current confusion around national eligibility standards emphasizes the need to advance the Protect College Sports Act," the SEC said in a statement.

This is news that many have been calling for, as the LSU Tigers have been linked to some former NFL players, which is something that shouldn't be the case to begin with. The LSU Tigers also keep winning on some local court rulings, which is what has helped things like this carry on.

Pete Nakos Shares an Update

Pete Nakos shared an update following the announcement by the SEC.

"Sources told On3 that the SEC presidents' call was just for general discussion regarding the current eligibility situation in college sports. No decisions were made ahead of tomorrow's league meetings in Birmingham," Pete Nakos said.

As for the Vols, this only helps them, as they haven't been in contention for any of the SEC players who opted to try to return to college football. However, this is something that the Vols will have to eventually go after NFL players if this does become a normal trend from teams across the nation, if they want to keep up talent-wise.

Overall, the statement made by the SEC is something that I personally agree with, as this game is built for kids who are in college or have yet to run out of college eligibility. While there are many different ways to forfeit your remaining college eligibility, it is safe to say that one of the main things that should forfeit it is leaving for pro sports, or even the draft as a whole.
