The Tennessee Vols are currently battling the Florida Gators for an elite quarterback recruit from Alabama.
And it’s Florida that currently has the advantage.
Tennessee is running No. 2 to Florida in battle for 2028 quarterback from Alabama
According to 247Sports, the Gators are leading for 2028 four-star quarterback Kingston Preyear.
Preyear, 6-foot-3/195 pounds from Alexander City, AL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama. He’s also rated as the No. 18 overall player in the 2028 recruiting class (which means he’ll likely be a five-star recruit in the future).
247Sports’ Tom Loy noted that Tennessee is “number two” in this recruiting battle.
“Florida was named the No. 1 school in the recruitment over the weekend when it comes to the coveted signal caller from Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell high school,” wrote Loy over. Preyear. “The new staff, specifically offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and head coach Jon Sumrall knocked it out of the park during the trip to Gainesville (Fla.) for the Gators’ Junior Day in January. The plan is to return to campus from March 28-29, while Auburn will host him on March 17, Tennessee on March 18-19, and Alabama on April 11 for the Crimson Tide’s spring game. Preyear added that Tennessee is number two in the recruitment.”
Alabama is also in the mix for Preyear.
Tennessee recently landed a commitment from 2027 three-star quarterback Derrick Baker, so they can focus the bulk of their attention on Preyear if they choose.
It’s still early in this recruiting battle, but it’s clear that Tennessee has ground to make up.
