The 2024 regular-season meeting in Tuscaloosa instantly became one of the wildest games in the rivalry’s history. Alabama jumped out to a massive 28-0 lead, but Georgia stormed all the way back and appeared poised to complete an incredible comeback. Instead, freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams delivered one of the defining plays of his young career, making an acrobatic catch along the sideline and turning it into a game-changing touchdown. Alabama ultimately survived, 41-34, in a game remembered for its explosive plays and dramatic swings.

With Georgia entering the game as the No. 1 team in the country and riding a 29-game winning streak, Alabama faced an enormous challenge in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide responded with a 27-24 victory, ending Georgia’s remarkable run and capturing the Crimson Tide’s 30th SEC championship. Jalen Milroe led Alabama with 221 total yards and two touchdown passes, while the Crimson Tide’s defense made enough plays to hold off the Bulldogs.

The 2012 SEC Championship was essentially a national semifinal before the College Football Playoff existed. No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia battled for a spot in the BCS National Championship Game, and the game came down to the final play. Alabama escaped with a 32-28 victory after Georgia’s final pass fell just short of the end zone. The Crimson Tide advanced to face Notre Dame and eventually won the national championship.

Georgia finally broke through against Alabama on college football’s biggest stage. After losing to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game weeks earlier, the Bulldogs got their revenge in the national title game. Stetson Bennett and Georgia rallied to defeat Alabama 33-18, securing the program’s first national championship since 1980 and establishing Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs as the sport’s new powerhouse. The nail in the coffin was an iconic pick-six by Kelee Ringo on Bryce Young.

1. 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship

Nothing quite matches the drama of the 2018 national championship. Georgia appeared to have Alabama buried after taking a 13-point lead, but Nick Saban made the stunning decision to replace Jalen Hurts with freshman Tua Tagovailoa at halftime. The move changed everything. Tagovailoa led the comeback before delivering a 41-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in overtime, giving Alabama a 26-23 victory and another national championship. It remains one of the greatest finishes in college football history.

Four years ago today, Alabama won their fifth national championship under Nick Saban on Tua Tagovailoa's walk-off TD pass to DeVonta Smith.
