With all of the hype regarding Texas A&M’s chances of securing massive postseason implications, the Aggies must stay focused on the task at hand, with one of the most electric dual-threat quarterbacks coming to Bryan-College Station, Texas, looking to play spoiler on Saturday morning.
After coming within a few plays of upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 10, quarterback LaNorris Sellers and the South Carolina Gamecocks are entering Kyle Field with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove against the No. 3 Aggies. Despite struggles in the trenches throughout this year’s campaign, head coach Shane Beamer will have his squad raring to go on Saturday morning.
South Carolina conquered Texas A&M, 44-20, at Williams-Bryce Stadium last season and completely spoiled any hopes the Aggies had of reaching the league’s championship game and the CFP. Beamer and company will look to repeat that success against the Aggies, who currently sit atop the conference, in College Station this year.
Here is everything Beamer said on Wednesday’s weekly SEC coaches teleconference ahead of this weekend’s matchup at Kyle Field:
Beamer’s opening statement after South Carolina’s bye week
“Coming off a bye week for us. Last SEC game of the season coming up. We’ve got a big challenge coming up in College Station,” Beamer said.
Beamer’s comments on the difficulty of competing every week in the SEC
“The nine-game SEC schedule, there better be a strength-of-schedule increase in the metrics,” Beamer said. “I saw the rankings last night, and we’ve played three out of the top seven and four out of the top 11. When you look at the teams in this league, who we play week in and week out, it’s the best of the best every single Saturday.”
Beamer discusses the job Texas A&M has done this season
“It would be hard to argue that A&M hasn’t done more than any other team in the country, given their win at Notre Dame, three straight road wins in the SEC, who they’ve beaten at home,” Beamer said.
Beamer on facing the Aggies this weekend
“We’ve played all of the best teams in the country, so we’ve seen it week in and week out. These guys are right at the top when you talk about what they’re able to do in all three phases,” Beamer said. “They’re doing the things it takes to win football games. They’re not beating themselves.”
Beamer talks about what he has seen from Texas A&M on film
“I don’t really see a weakness in them. Their record and body of work speaks to that,” Beamer said.
Beamer’s comments on the Aggie pass rush
“You’ve got to be ready for all 11 guys to come after you. They’ve got great personnel, and schematically, they know how to beat you,” Beamer said. “It starts with Coach Elko. He’s a great coach. They play with great effort and great physicality.”
