Deion Sanders’ journey as the Colorado head coach has been full of ups and downs, while his first year with the program began with a lot of support from the fans and many celebrities, however, as the Buffaloes faced back-to-back losses, resulting in a 4-8 season, the support also took a hit.
Coach Prime’s second season turned out to be a successful one with Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders leading the Buffaloes to a 9-4 season.
The next season turned out to be a disappointment again as the Buffaloes ended the year with a 3-9 overall record, which resulted in Coach Prime facing the pressure to turn things around in the 2026 season.
Analyst Weighs in on Why Deion Sanders Could Be Fired from Colorado
Many analysts have put Coach Prime on the hot seat this year, claiming that he has to use 2026 to show Colorado he can turn things around for the program.

Analyst and Hall of Famer Cris Carter shared his thoughts on Coach Prime’s future as the Colorado head coach on Monday’s “Fully Loaded” podcast:
“Not being physical and not having an identity, those things will get you fired. I don’t care who you are. I know the economics that he has brought to Boulder; most people don’t have to consider that, but if you do move on from Deion, the economic impact is going to be felt because whoever they bring in is not going to be able to have the same type of cache.”
“So you best maximize this moment; try to put the best team. Now he made a lot of staff changes. So for me, I hope those staff changes come with philosophy changes.”
Coach Prime and the Buffaloes began their 2026 college football journey on a good note after they were able to clinch a close 14-13 win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in week 1.
The Colorado head coach has made quite a few adjustments to his staff and overall strategy for the 2026 season as he welcomed their new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who is the program’s third OC in four years.

The Buffaloes also have their new defensive coordinator, Chris Marve, who served as the program’s linebacker coach previously.
While the defense has always been a point of struggle for Coach Prime and Co., things are different this year as the head coach believes them to be “extraordinary” this time.
