Three Army football players selected to participate in Pro Day tests

Army football will have three of its players participate in its annual Pro Day scouting combine on Thursday, March 12.

Safety Collin Matteson, slotback Noah Short and linebacker Andon Thomas have been asked to participate in a series of tests and drills before a bevy of NFL and other pro scouts at the indoor Foley Athletic Center.

There will be height, weight and flexibility tests at Kimsey Athletic Center at noon, followed by bench press and vertical jump. The athletes will cross the street and take part in field testing: 40-yard dash; 20-yard short shuttle; broad jump; and, three-cone drill. The session will end with position drills.

Matteson, a senior from Edmond, Oklahoma, started 12 games, ranking third in both total (79) and solo tackles (51), and leading with seven pass break-ups. He recorded 11 tackles at Air Force and against Tulsa, forced a fumble against Tulsa and had an interception at Kansas State. He also played 14 games in 2024.

Short, a senior slotback from San Jose, California, proved to be a versatile member of the offense, as a runner and pass catcher, starting all 13 games. He had 32 receptions for 438 yards and two touchdowns, adding 98 carries for 571 yards and one score. He concluded his career with seven grabs for 108 yards and a touchdown in the Wasabi Bowl win over Connecticut; He twice rushed for 127 yards, including the regular-season finale at Texas San Antonio, posting his lone rushing score.

Thomas, a senior captain from Liberty Hill, Texas, made 13 starts and was named second-team All-American Conference. He led the Black Knights in total tackles (113) and solo stops (66) – he had double-digit stops against Tarleton (14), East Carolina (13), Air Force (10) and Tulsa (10). He is an Academic All-America.

Should this Army trio not receive pro contracts, they will head out for their first post assignments following May graduation: Thomas to Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Short to Fort Bliss, Texas; and, Matteson to Fort Carson, Colorado.

The Pro Days are just one avenue of scouting ahead of the annual NFL Draft on April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. Draft-eligible players have been viewed during the fall and postseason bowl season; at a handful of prominent senior-bowl showcases; at a series of scouting combines; and, some will get individual team workouts.

At Army's 2025 Pro Day, lineman Lucas Scott and Brett Gerena participated. In 2024, Army had eight players at Pro day: linebacker/defensive back Jimmy Ciarlo; tight end Joshua Lingenfelter; defensive back Quindrelin Hammonds; inside linebacker Leo Lowin; defensive back Bo Nicolas-Paul; wide receiver/running back Ay'jaun Marshall; defensive back Jabari Moore; and, kicker Cole Talley. In 2023, the participants were Andre Carter II, Kwabena Bonsu, Isaiah Morris, Braheam Murphy, Isaiah Morris and Maurice Bellan.
