No. 7 Ole Miss hosts Florida Saturday at 6 p.m. Here are three keys to a Rebels win over the Gators at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
No distractions
In case you hadn’t heard, Florida needs a football coach. Ole Miss has a coach who is mentioned for nearly every major job annually. Lane Kiffin and the Rebels have more than enough to focus on in front of them – at 9-1, Ole Miss is on the verge of its first-ever berth in the College Football Playoff. The Gators have struggled this season but still have tons of talent on the roster, starting with quarterback DJ Lagway. Up after Florida and a bye week is Mississippi State. There’s no time to worry about what the national conversation surrounding Kiffin’s future may be. These Rebels have a chance at making history.
Contain Lagway
Speaking of Lagway, the sophomore has had an inconsistent sophomore campaign. He was a key reason for the Gators’ upset over Ole Miss in Gainesville, Florida last season, however, deftly escaping sack attempts by defenders while throwing a pair of touchdowns. Lagway has 11 touchdowns to 12 interceptions this season and has yet to record a 300-yard passing game. Kiffin and the Rebels know better than anyone that Lagway has elite moments and must be taken seriously despite his rollercoaster 2025.
Strike deep
Ole Miss senior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss averages 13.94 yards per completion, good for 10th in the FBS. Florida is 69th nationally in passing-efficiency defense and has surrendered 28 passing plays of at least 20 yards, according to CFBStats. Chambliss was nearly perfect last weekend against The Citadel, though Florida is clearly a step up in competition. When Chambliss gets the ball down the field consistently, the Rebels are hard to stop. That figures to be the case this weekend as well.
