Saturday's Homecoming game inside the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio, is heavily tilted in the Buckeyes favor. They are massive favorites against the Maryland Terrapins, who come into the game having lost three straight games and not particularly close.
The result of today's game is hardly in balance, but the Buckeyes are still going to have to put on a show and do so in a convincing fashion.
Here are three keys to the game for Ohio State.
1. Feed Jeremiah Smith
This is Jeremiah Smith's world, we are just living in it. He is playing football at such an elite level that is rare in today's day and age. He is essentially unguardable, and the Buckeyes are taking advantage of it week in and week out.
Through five games, he has more receiving yards than nearly 20 percent of teams in all of Division 1 football. He has 44 catches for 823 yards and 9 touchdowns, and we have not even reached the halfway point of the regular season, let alone a full postseason.
He has hit the century mark in four of the five games this year and is currently on a two-game streak of eclipsing 200 yards. He doesn't need 200 today, but keep feeding him the football and keep those numbers climbing.
2. Get the Young Wide Receivers Going
It is time for the young wide receivers to make their mark. The old wide receivers behind Smith have been fine at best. Devin McCuin has shown spurts, and Brandon Inniss has kept his role as the chain mover of the offense, but nothing more than that.
Those two players are questionable for Saturday's matchup, so it is time for these youngsters to get their opportunity.
Brock Boyd might have his first chance to be featured today in high-leverage situations. When he's entered the game in real spots, he's been more of a blocker, and a good one at that. The Buckeyes need to get him the football in space today and let him show exactly what he can do.
Chris Henry Jr. has a chance to show the growth he's had from the start of the year to now. He still has plenty of room to improve, and his game is already at a high level. Hopefully, today he gets a couple of chances to really showcase what he can be.
3. Pitch a Shutout
Can the defense have a dominant day on Saturday night? They have the chance to take on this inferior opponent and totally shut the door on them. They haven't thrown out a complete performance so far this year; Saturday would be the perfect time for one.
The Buckeyes and Terrapins take the field at 4:15 PM on Saturday with the result not on the line, but plenty of storylines to monitor.
