Three Keys to Victory for the Oregon Ducks Against UCLA

The Oregon Ducks are facing a near-must-win scenario this afternoon against the UCLA Bruins.  After Oregon fell to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, they nearly lost all room for error, and now they are being put to the test.

The UCLA Bruins are flying high coming into the game this afternoon because, for them, they are on completely to other side of the coin. They are playing great football, and if they beat Oregon, they will find themselves in College Football Playoff conversations right away.

For Oregon, here are three keys to victory for the Ducks against the Bruins.

1. Settle Dylan Raiola Into the Game

There will be no Dante Moore today and maybe for the rest of the season for the Ducks. Saturday marks the first start in the Oregon career for quarterback Dante Moore. Raiola couldn't have looked any more impressive against USC when he came in after the Moore injury and just operated the offense like the five-star that he is.

It will be very critical for him on Saturday not to let the moment get too big for him. All eyes will be on this football game, and he needs to keep the exact same approach that he took into the USC game. Play smoothly and be efficient.

I think it will be very important for Oregon to keep it easy on him early and allow him to settle into the football game so that he finds some success early on in the game.

2. Shrink the Football Game

UCLA's style and personality are to go fast and score a lot of points. They have only played one game this year in which they scored fewer than 45 points, and that was a game against San Diego State. They beat San Diego State 28-10 and it was thanks to a 21-point fourth quarter.

The Aztecs controlled the tempo of the game until they lost it late. Oregon needs to win the time of possession and control the tempo on the ground.

3. Pressure Nico Iamaleava

The Ducks need to put pressure on the Bruins' quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Iamaleava has had one of the most fascinating college football careers, and like most quarterbacks, he has needed some extra time to develop and improve as a passer.

One place that he has always struggled is when the pressure turns up around him. When that happens and the pocket shrinks, he doesn't do a good job adjusting and that is going to be something for the Ducks to turn up to make his life really hard on Saturday.
