Bob Chesney and the UCLA Bruins found out who their quarterback of the future was not going to be this past week, with Dane Weber committing to join the Cal Bears. UCLA was a finalist for Weber, with the three-star quarterback ultimately heading to Berkeley.
247 Sports has Weber as the No. 31 quarterback in the 2027 class. The Temecula, CA native is 6’1” and had offers from Oregon, Georgia and Michigan. Weber made his decision on Thursday, with UCLA joining Cal and Cincinnati as finalists for the quarterback.

Weber has dropped from four-star to three-star status but he still offers an upside that the Bruins don’t appear to have beyond Nico Iamaleava. 247 Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins has Gunner Stockton as a player Weber reminds him of.
“Tough and competitive signal-caller that just makes things happen,” Ivins wrote. “Will push the ball down the field with impressive touch, but some of his best shots come when targeting crossers and out-breakers as he uses a rapid release to find pace.”
Cal, like the Bruins, has had a very good start to their 2027 recruiting. The Bears are currently ranked with the No. 22 2027 recruiting class, with UCLA up at No. 7. Both schools have new head coaches heading into the 2026 season, with new Cal head coach Tosh Lupoi having a message for college football recruits in Los Angeles on Thursday.
