With official visits in the rearview, we are now in the stage of the cycle where recruits are in decision-making mode and setting dates to reveal their commitments.
The Texas Longhorns already received a couple commitments on Tuesday and now another recent official visitor in Humbla Atascocita three-star defensive tackle Jason Johnson announced that his commitment date isn’t far off with a decision set for June 29 at 6:30 p.m. Central.
Cal, LSU, and Vanderbilt are the other three finalists for the 6’4, 280-pounder with Houston now officially eliminated from contention despite hosting Johnson for an official visit in May.
Johnson was on campus over the weekend to officially visit the Longhorns and following his trip to Austin we have already seen his recruitment start to trend towards the burnt orange.
With Kasi Currie and Tyler Alexander already part of the equation for the 2027 class along the interior defensive line, spots are already limited. Johnson reserving his spot in the class makes a lot of sense considering the timing and how things have quickly played out following his visit.
If Johnson opts to become part of the class, that will give Texas three defensive tackles and will allow them to big game hunt for the remainder of the cycle and be very selective with how they allocate their resources.
Johnson is ranked as the No. 451 player nationally and the No. 52 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite rankings.
