The LSU Tigers received news that they didn't necessarily want to get, but are not completely surprised by, as three-star 2026 DL Darryus McKinley has flipped his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes per Hayes Fawcett of On3.
McKinley committed to the Tigers back at the beginning of August. The Buckeyes offered him in late October, and now he has decided to head to Ohio.
The Lafayette native, Acadiana student, is the No. 600-ranked player nationally, No. 73 defensive lineman in America and No. 20 player in Louisiana per the 247Sports composite rankings.
It's not too shocking to see a player decommit after a coaching change, but this could actually lead to a bigger issue for LSU if Darryus' brother decides to join him at Ohio State.
Dominick McKinley was a five-star recruit out of the 2024 class and has played a big role on the defense on passing downs. He's not a starter, but he plays about 20-30 snaps a game. He has 16 tackles with four sacks and five total tackles for a loss in his career.
His role in the defense was likely set to expand next year, but perhaps he joins his brother on the promise of a larger role with the Buckeyes. The two are very close, so it wouldn't be shocking to see this be a precursor to that news.
As for the guaranteed loss of Darryus, he was their third-ranked interior defensive lineman of this upcoming class. They still have five-star Richard Anderson and four-star Deuce Geralds.
