We live in a college football world of lists, rankings, and countdowns. Many players on Notre Dame’s roster have been talked about and written about over the last few months — so let’s fall in line.

This will be my official Top 20 Notre Dame Football Players ranking. I will unveil each player, and list the three things I like about them. It seems simple enough, but I have no doubt that some of these ratings will be highly criticized, but you can always share your thoughts in the comments below.

#5 Boubacar Traore DE

Another big step

It feels like Boubacar took a HUGE step last season by making it through an entire season healthy. He didn’t play in the Navy game, but I think that has more to do with how jolting it was for Traore to go down in 2024. My personal view of Traore is that he could be a very dominant edge player, and last year’s 10 TFL’s and 6.5 sacks was pretty encouraging. He’s going to take another step this year, and it’s going to good enough that we will be peeking at the record books at ND to see where he stands.

He can play free

This might be a bit of a stretch, but he’s a tall guy. I like Traore even MORE this year because I like Notre Dame’s depth along the entire defensive line. As good as Traore is, you still don’t want him overreaching and trying to make something out of nothing. With everything Notre Dame has this season, they can get more out of each snap with whatever rotation they put out there.

Boston boy

I really put the Beantown Boys back-to-back, so this is fun.

It’s funny how many players Notre Dame gets from New England and the northeast in general. That region is never considered as one of the recruiting hotbeds in the country, and yet… Notre Dame goes in and continually pulls out some of its best talent. Still, Boston itself is very few and far between (and there’s an entire entrance song at ND Stadium talking about Boston). So, that’s fun.
