Tony Romo takes 'full responsibility' for arrest, spokesperson says

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo "accepts full responsibility for his actions" in the July 23 incident that led to his arrest in Milwaukee and subsequent four citations, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

“Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved," the spokesperson said Aug. 27 in a statement to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and other news organizations. "We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps.”

Earlier in the day, Romo received citations for first-offense operating while intoxicated, unsafe passing on the right side and possessing open intoxicants in his vehicle. He had previously been cited for refusing to take an intoxication test after his arrest.

Romo, a Burlington native, was arrested July 23 after a deputy pulled him over on southbound Interstate 43, and he performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. He was in the area to participate in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf event in West Bend and told the deputy that he was on his way to a family member's house after the event concluded.

Following his arrest, CBS placed Romo on leave until further notice.

Romo is due in court for all four citations Sept. 21.
