Top college football analyst rips into postseason scheduling, execution

Today, there are a lot of growing concerns in the college football climate. There are questions of leadership, guidance, and even structure.

Not only is college football struggling to address some of these, they can’t seem to get one of the simpler things right: scheduling. The college football playoffs’ scheduling has been especially brutal for teams with bye weeks.

Not only that, the timing of the postseason has created controversies, such as Lane Kiffin ditching Ole Miss for LSU. Oh yes, that came with Ole Miss still in the playoffs.

ESPN analyst David Pollack echoed the concerns of fans, analysts, and many others in the college football world. Pollack told Always College Football that the Kiffin situation pushed him over the edge. He then began to describe how to help address the issues with the postseason.

“First of all, we got top four seeds getting a bye fixed. Now, is that advantageous?” Pollack said. “Teams that get byes are 1-7. So something is not going right off that point. We’ve got that fixed.”

That one win? The most recent college football champion is the Indiana Hoosiers. This upcoming season, some teams with a bye will have over 30 days since their last game played.

The next suggestion by Pollack really raised eyebrows. Eliminating conference titles.

“Let’s move on from conference championships,” David Pollack continued. “I don’t think it’s an advantage to go play in [conference championships]. You can get rid of conference championship games because they don’t mean that much.”

With the bye weeks currently being granted to conference champions, perhaps this is a move that makes sense. Eliminating bye weeks and avoiding an extra week of play could level the playing field.

There is no clear fix to college football postseasons. However, one thing is for certain: college football is trending towards being a polarizing sport.
