The LSU Tigers are squarely in a three-school hunt to sign current Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin, with the third team being the Florida Gators.

While fans and officials want a final decision to be made as quickly as possible, it appears that they will have to wait until at least Nov. 29, the day after the Rebels play the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss AD Keith Carter released a statement on social media following a meeting with Kiffin, stating that he would at least be finishing out the regular season.

"While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important – our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the reqular season in historic fashion," said Carter. "An announcement on Coach Kiffin's future is expected the Saturday following the game."

That statement leaves open the possibility of Kiffin leaving his current position, as he left that meeting without an extension in place. The three schools will have another week to lure the highly sought after coach to their school.

Kiffin has been the head coach of the Rebels since 2020. He has a 54-19 record there and has led them to a 10-1 record this season. They're ranked No. 6 in the country and in line for a College Football Playoff appearance.

The 50-year-old has a 116-53 overall record in college, spanning stops with the Rebels, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, and Florida Atlantic Owls. He's worked as an assistant under legendary coaches Nick Saban and Pete Carroll.
