Top RB Micah Rhodes Expected to Choose Oklahoma Over Texas in 2028 Recruitment Battle

The Texas Longhorns wrapped up the 2025 college football season going 10-3, defeating the Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl. Well into the offseason, Steve Sarkisian and his staff have hit the recruiting trail.

While not having any commitments in the 2028 cycle, the Longhorns are making impressions on some of the top players. That includes running back Micah Rhodes out of Spring, Texas.

His sophomore season performance with Klein Oak High School has made him one of the most sought-after players in the country. He rushed for 1,307 yards and 21 touchdowns, earning first-team honors on the MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team.

Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 180 pounds, he’s a four-star recruit, the No. 3 running back and the No. 42 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings. While offers continue to roll in, Rhodes has his eyes set on just a handful of programs. The Longhorns are firmly in the mix.

Rivals’ Pete Nakos reported that the running back has narrowed down his top three schools. That includes Texas, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas A&M Aggies. It’s a battle between several SEC powerhouses for his commitment.

However, the winner may already be decided. On Wednesday, Rivals’ national recruiting analyst, Sam Spiegelman logged an expert prediction for Rhodes to commit to Oklahoma.

It would be a major addition for the Sooners, who, just like the Longhorns, have yet to land any commitments in the 2028 cycle. It would also be their second time landing a top-five running back in the past three cycles, joining Jonathan Hatton Jr. (No. 5) in the class of 2026.

While the battle isn’t over, Oklahoma is looking poised to land one of the nation’s top recruits over the Longhorns and Aggies.
