The Oregon Ducks’ football program has churned out a ton of great players and coaches over its history, but the number has seemed to skyrocket over the last few years. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi accepted a deal to become the head coach of the California Golden Bears next season and he has begun building his staff.

Offensive coordinator Will Stein has already started with this process and has poached a handful of former Ducks coaches and executives. Now, Lupoi is doing the same thing, but luckily his additions have been gone from the program for a while.

His most recent hire is Jordan Somerville, who will serve as the offensive coordinator for the Golden Bears. He has spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an assistant quarterbacks coach, where Baker Mayfield has resurrected his career.

Somerville has a robust background and should be a valuable addition to the Golden Bears.

He spent time with Oregon some years back as an offensive assistant and will now partner with their current defensive coordinator to extend the branches of Dan Lanning’s coaching tree. He’s only been a head coach for four years himself and has already helped three men become the leader of their own programs.

Lanning has quickly become one of the faces of the college football landscape and is helping Oregon to become one of its legendary schools.
